Re: The Kirtland Bank
So what is to be learned from this? Following even prophets in financial matters could lead you to financial ruin...no guarantees??? Exercise ones agency in financial matters, and don't allow leaders, even the prophet himself to give one the impression things will always be fine? Prophets are still men who err?
What is the modern day lesson.....I mean Jospeh was trying to establish Zion, as are we as a latter-day church? So how do we apply this to us today? Does anyone know if Jospeh was commanded by God to establish Kirkland bank? Was there a revelation given on the matter?

Re: The Kirtland Bank
On January 2, 1837, God's bank was established on earth by revelation to his prophet Joseph Smith. It was believed that it would grow and flourish, and become the greatest banking institution on earth. In less than a year, it failed catastrophically, and hundreds of saints left the church.
