Re: As a Thief in the Night
I personally thought it was excellent. I like all of the RKY stuff I have read (OK all I have readi is TITN and one that has "figs" in the title I think.
He definitely wanders out on the speculative side of what may or may not be fulfillment of revelation, but I think he presents a good case and it is an enjoyable read. And, regardless, his admoniutions to prepare, prepare, prepare are spot on. I;d give it 8 out of 10 stars.

Somewhere around here there is a thread on RKY. You will find a plethora of opinions there if you want to check it out.
Maybe someone can post that link?

Sharon, you are amazing! I liked the book, but got a bit turned off when towards the end he started making predictions and giving out dates, most of all of which were several years past already.

Re: As a Thief in the Night
Sorry. Just checked my book and it is his book 'Behold the fig tree', not As a thief in the night. I don't anything about As a thief in the night. Behold the fig tree was a bit frightening as well.

Re: As a Thief in the Night
Both books are frightening. But then so is the old book I read 40 years ago called Prophcy, Key To The Future by Duane S. Crouther.
The RKY books are good, the man means well, but I got turned off of the group by the constant hammering about tent cities. Too many of his followers are like the born again Christians who think they will be privileged to miss the "tribulation" period of the last days. BA Christians by being Raptured and RKY followers by being in tent cities prior to the REALLY tough times.
OK, it could happen...eventually to save the righteous. But I'm thinking we all need to be tested and tried, (as the brethren keep telling us we need to spiritually prepare for) and any Tent City scenario would come AFTER the tribulation, if at all.
There is a constant call from the RKY group to "Bring it on!" I don't care for the arrogant sound of that. We are still "gathering" people to the gospel and those people don't need to have "it" brought on before they have a chance to hear and accept the gospel.
I'll get off my soap box and go to bed now.

Re: As a Thief in the Night
I agree swan,
The RKY folks seem to be far more into physical preparedness without much emphasis on spiritual preparedness. Guns, wheat and a tent aren't going to do us much good if we don't have the requisite spiritual lamp oil as well.
I have enjoyed reading his books, but I take what he says with a grain of salt. Mostly I find the books useful because they serve as a catalyst for my own thinking and study.

Re: As a Thief in the Night
Patriot Saint and Swan Song, I'm on pretty much the same page as you guys. The books are very interesting and I do believe Bro. Young's heart is in the right place, but somewhere along the line, it got too speculative for me. But if they scare some people into doing some preparing, that's better than not doing something. However, the spiritual preparation is so very important that it needs to be addressed by RKY and followers, as well.
From what I can tell, the gathering of souls to the Church is priority number one right now. I don't want to hasten the time or "bring it on" yet, until we've gathered all who will come. Thank goodness the Lord is in charge and all things will be in "His due time".
