A Glorious Standard

Postby lundbaek » Sat Aug 18, 2007 8:35 pm

Using recorded statements of the Lord, ancient prophets, and latter day prophets and apostles, this outstanding reference work by LDS author Christopher Bentley gives one greater understanding of the importance of the US Constitution to Latter Day Saints. It is a compendium of statements concerning the duty of LDSs to befriend it, God's inspiration for its creation, the negligence on our part for its current neglect, and the importance of our upholding it and preparing to revitalize in in future.

I had the opportunity to review this book as it was being written and put together the following review:

First, it shows us that the Lord Himself has stated unequivocally that He is the Constitution’s Author. Almost all of the latter-day prophets have declared that the Constitution is a document that was created through the inspiration of the Spirit. This work presents several passages in our own Restoration scriptures (which most Latter-day Saints should be familiar with), but also a veritable avalanche of latter day prophetic testimony bearing solemn witness of this truth.

Second, it documents that almost every prophet in this dispensation has emphasized the vital importance of defending, upholding and adhering to the Constitution. It quotes prophets who have spoken on this particular subject have warned us that there is simply no way around this duty if we wish to remain a free people, and that collective future will be affected radically by our decision to adhere to this counsel—or to either ignore or reject it.

Third, it shows that several prophets have warned that we have apostatized in various ways from the Constitution, and have spoken of that day of destiny when the Constitution will be on the very verge of destruction, or when it will hang, as it were, by a thread. And it quotes their testimmonies that it will be saved before it is completely destroyed.

And fourth, it presents evidence that the Constitution’s role goes beyond just providing a free nation in which the gospel and true Church could be restored to the Earth. The Constitution will become the governing system for the whole world during the Millennium. The principles of that great charter will eventually spread over the whole world, and all who are living at that time will seek to abide by them.

Is it sold at any major book stores or is it currently just sold directly through Mr. Bentley?

Postby WYp8riot » Mon Oct 01, 2007 5:49 am

You have a wonderful compilation of the best resources for a freedom awakening library here. I need to add a few more of these to my website as well. Have you read this new book yet? Can you provide any additional comments? How much is the book?

I don't know the price of the book plus postage, because I purchased 20 copies at a lower rate per book. The author's email address is on 2 of my above posts.

I just received my copy. What a great resource. What was new to me was how many of our latter-day prophets considered the Constitution just as sacred as the 10 Commandments.

Over Conference weekend I was wondering again why we don't hear more about the Constitution, but then at the same time we didn't hear much about the 10 Commandments either. I don't know if I'm missing something, but I feel like in general even the 10 Commandments have become too difficult so the prophets have to go to even a greater level of detail to help the people - i.e., avoid pornography, control your anger, etc.

Still though, as always most talks seemed to have several layers depending on what you wanted/needed to hear. For example, President Hinckley's talk about "anger" also is very applicable in how we communicate with others who don't want to "wake up." Sometimes it's difficult to not get frustrated and angry when people don't want to open their eyes to what's going on around us.

Re: A Glorious Standard

Postby lundbaek » Sun May 06, 2012 12:04 am

Leonard (Joe) Fabiano is for a second time running for US Congress from Utah. He recently purchased a number of cases of apparent reprints of A Glorious Standard For All Mankind and sent one of those cases of 40 books to me with the request that I get them at no cost into the hands of church leaders who will hopefully be moved by reading the book to find ways to promote awareness of the responsibility of LDS people to the Constitution and its preservation / restoration.

One of his sons, who is our bishop , and I did a bit of brainstorming trying to decide who in our stake in leadership callings would take the gift of this book seriously enuf to read it and appreciate it. We came up with only 5 names so far, including our stake president, 3 high council members, and 1 member of a bishipric. Not very good for a stake the size of ours. But I am asking the help of others in the Mesa, AZ area who I know have the book to suggest the names of leaders in their wards and stakes.

I have to admit my intent to keep one of these copies for myself since the one I still have is so dog eared, marked up, colour coded, and falling apart. This book has gotta be a classic. I wonder if any of the apostles or 70s have read the book.

lame...is this not available for purchase anymore? My stake president might be one who would be interested (perhaps he has already read it) but my bishop would probably not.
