The X haplotype was popular years ago, but as we learned more about it, it became apparent that it is very shaky. A study that came out last month put the final nail in the coffin of the X haplotype.
There are stronger genetic evidences for The Book of Mormon that are being found in more and more studies, that have a much stronger base.

Here is the study that came out a few months ago that shows the X haplotype is not what is said to be by Meldrum and others:
http://www.ajhg.org/AJHG/fulltext/S0002-9297(08)00139-0#

"Native American populations exhibit almost exclusively five mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups (A-D and X). Haplogroups A-D are also frequent in Asia, suggesting a northeastern Asian origin of these lineages. However, the differential pattern of distribution and frequency of haplogroup X led some to suggest that it may represent an independent migration to the Americas. Here we show, by using 86 complete mitochondrial genomes, that all Native American haplogroups, including haplogroup X, were part of a single founding population, thereby refuting multiple-migration models.
1. Our results strongly support the hypothesis that haplogroup X, together with the other four main mtDNA haplogroups, was part of the gene pool of a single Native American founding population; therefore they do not support models that propose haplogroup-independent migrations, such as the migration from Europe posed by the Solutrean hypothesis."

This bites me in the butt as well because it is mentioned in FAIRs DNA video "The Book of Mormon and New World DNA" and now has to be edited out. I wish it was otherwise because at the very least, it shows that it is possible, even if it happened in the wrong time period.

As for evidence, you can read: http://www.neara.org/Guthrie/lymphocyteantigens01.htm

There is a newer study on Middle Eastern Haplotypes in the Mayan, but I only have the hard copy and would need to find it online.

You can see short clips form the video of what population geneticists, anthropologists, linguists, and BOM scholars say about it here:

You can see the whole video, which is about an hour and a half, by purchasing it here: http://store.fairlds.org/prod/p1893036073.html
Or you can get it at your local Deseret Book or Seagull bookstore.

Also, who knows if the Hebrew genetic marker called the Cohen haplotype will pan out or not. It wasn't found in N. America, but in S. America. Personally, I doubt it will, but it is interesting. You can read about it here:
