Forum Software Updated (2015-02-28)

Post by creator »

I just updated the forum software that this site runs on. :ymparty:

You'll notice it looks a lot the same but also different. If you're on a mobile device - especially a phone - it should be much improved for you. One of the major changes I made is to make it more mobile friendly.

I think right now the only feature missing that we had previously is the ability to "Thank" people for their posts - that will be back.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Yeah. It went offline while I was reading/commenting and when it came back on I noticed the thanks button was gone (and that it looked different). (That's why I came to this area of the forum.) I'm glad it will be back.

Wow. Quite the change. It will take a little getting used to.

Notifications instead of View Your Posts? I had a notification and it sent me to a post I am following, but only one. Surely there has been more than one thread commented on since I've been gone.

Never mind. Found it under quick links. Still not sure why one thread was posted under notifications though.

The only thing I notice odd is I am showing that I have a PM, but when I go to private messages, there is nothing new.

Checked it on my phone. Yup. It works better. I don't accidentally log out when I'm trying to click on View my Posts. The only annoying thing is the quicklinks menu doesn't want to pull up easily. I can't click on it unless I enlarge the screen.

The pm section is really weird now, OI. Did you scroll down?

Couple of things:

It no longer opens a new tab every time I click on a link--I liked that feature.
And I think that the page numbers should be before the quick reply box.
You switched the submit button and now I keep almost hitting "Save draft."

It hurts my eyes. Is there an option for updated but like the old version?

What hurts your eyes? The colors are almost the same as before.

Brian - the shading on the pm screen is fixed. Each line is now a consistent shade all the way across. Nice.

I like the update, looks nice. I am on my phone right now, the one thing I am not seeing is the link to take me directly to the last post of a thread. I did like that feature, most of the time I don't read most of the threads, but just take a look at the most recent posts.

Thanks for the forum Brian :)

I am using a phone, and noticed views and replies don't show on the main pages anymore. Can this be modified to show those numbers?

I did like to see if there was any interest right off, also are all views noted or only for views of forum members? I have wondered about that when there are hundreds of guests online.

Thanks.♡ :)

If you would like help with the like button, I can help you make it an Ajax button so that it doesn't have to do a total page load.

Brian, if possible, please put in place something to filter out new accounts, whose garbage I have to disapprove. It's turning my stomach having to look at things before I am able to get rid of them. These notifications clog up the process of approving new accounts. I didn't have to deal with such spam/trolls before the forum was upgraded yesterday. Thank you.

I don't like the new structure of the forum.

I don't know how everyone eles feels about the change. But I for one don't like it.

There have been similar changes over the years. At first they virtually all seem awkward compared to what we are used to, but in most cases after a little while the changes seem to become the new norm, and we forget the old structure/format. Just something I've noticed.

Not to poke anyone in the eye here, but what specifically don't you like about it? I have no connection to those who run this site but I run several of my own and feedback is appreciated when it is specific. Maybe there is something you don't like that they can fix. But they would never know from your comment.

I miss the iddy biddy little box for the last posting in each thread.
It is on the front page where all the discussion topics are listed, but when you go for instance to"gospel discussions", those little boxes are not there.
Could you put those in please. I used them all the time.

Our icon pictures are so dinky, could you make them a little bigger please. Too small to see on the phone Thank you

Other than those two, I think I'm happy with the update. Thanks
