Mitt Romney

Post by lundbaek »

My biggest concern about Mitt Romney is his pushing for compulsory health insurance for all Massachusetts citizens. As I understand, his proposal would force all MA citizens who somebody will consider able to purchase health insurance, and contribute via taxes to the cost of health insurance for MA citizens who somebody will consider unable to afford it. This demonstrates disdain for certain constitutional principles and the principle of free agency.

Beyond that, for now I refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney

This is no longer a proposal, Mitt Romney's socialist plan is now a Massachusetts Law - see:

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/prem/200 ... 2006-06-27
M assachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's new health care law is attracting close attention all over the country. So it should. As Marilyn Werber Serafini explained in National Journal (6/10/06, p. 22), the plan is a remarkable departure.

It proposes to make health insurance coverage universal (or very nearly so), the Holy Grail of liberal reformers. Massachusetts will be the first state to achieve this. And the law promises to extend coverage without affecting the way health care works for people who already have insurance—for them, nothing will change. That reassures conservatives who want to keep the health care market system. Yet somehow, to complete this miraculous trifecta, the law requires no new taxes. The plan won overwhelming bipartisan support, passing the state House 154-2 and the state Senate 37-0.

maybe someone could help me with this?

It's pretty easy to get voting records from Senators and Congressman, but it's much harder to find the record of a governor (at least it has been difficult to find anything about what Romney has done as governer).

All I have found so far that would show that Mitt Romney is a socialist is this health care mandate, does anyone know of any other socialistic programs/laws Romney has either approved or proposed?

If he's going to be considered as a presidential candidate we must know where his loyalties are.

I'm quite uncertain where Mitt's loyalties lie ... not just Republican or Democrat, but whether the Lord's Church or Gadiantons.

- His loyalty to the Heritage Foundation and its history first made me wonder ...
- and recently I discovered how his father admitted on public television to being brainwashed by the US military
(from http://www.amxfiles.com/amc/romney.html )
"Mr. Romney was among the luminaries of the national Republican Party after his 1966 election to a third consecutive term as governor of Michigan with a 570,000-vote plurality. But he abandoned his bid for the party's presidential nomination two weeks before the 1968 New Hampshire primary. That was after a three-month campaign that was dogged by his nationally televised comment attributing his initial support for the Vietnam War to his being "brainwashed" by the U.S. military during a tour of the Southeast Asian country. He would later call U.S. participation in the war "the most tragic foreign policy mistake in the nation's history."
- Cathy O'Brien's testimony and experience with being mind-controlled, and how the Michigan governer of the 70s actively funded, researched, and promoted this trauma-based mind control. Yes, I realize this allegation could be completely false.

... Still it all makes me wonder ...

Duplicating a successful program in nearby Maine, in September 2005, Romney submitted a bill to the legislature to deliver $100 laptops to all children in Massachusetts. This project would cost $54 million.

According to his 2002 gubernatorial campaign, Romney "is a supporter of the federal assault weapons ban. Mitt also believes in the rights of those who hunt to responsibly own and use firearms."

These are the only things other than the MA mandatory health care program that bother me about him.

Who do you trust?

Post by John Adams »

Romney is one of these guys that makes it hard to trust anyone. Given his background you'd think he'd be a great candidate, but considering his latest initiatives (socialized healthcare, too much government in education, gun control, etc.) it makes you wonder.

Two possible scenarios:

1. Politics is always "give & take" and these recent initiatives by Romney will allow him to win over some moderate liberals later, even though "at heart" he would historically be against them.

2. The higher you get up in politics--the machine (secret combination, etc.) gets to everyone.

Additional Thoughts?

Romney & Gun Control ?

Post by lundbaek »

I had no idea that Romney had stated any position on gun issues. JD or anyone, Do you know any details out about his position on gun control ?

There may be some merit to the "give-and-take" and "compromise" part of the game in government. I don't know. I've never held an elected position outside of captain of my high school and university rowing teams. Congressman Ron Paul's opponents always point to his not getting much of anything done in Congress because of his refusal to compromise his standards. I question the accuracy of that, but it's used extensively by his opponents. It has been said that Senator Hatch has "played ball" with the liberals in hopes of attaining a position on the Supreme Court, where he can then "do some real good". I don't believe it, but I've read suggestions to that effect.

I still suspect he's a globalist, and that's the bottom line.

[auote]There may be some merit to the "give-and-take" and "compromise" part of the game in government.[/quote]

Rights come from God, governments are established by man to protect these rights.. (I think everyone here agrees with that)

That being said, I don't think that compromising our standards has any right place in government... I believe it is the devil that would promote that, and he has, and that is why our government is infiltrated from the top down by the Secret Combination just as it was at one point with the Nephites government.

I know that as Latter-day Saints we are taught that we should never lower our standards, so why would it be any different in government?

I think it's the "give-and-take" and "compromise" attitude that got us into this mess and it's that same attitude that keeps us in the mess our gov. is in. For real change toward constitutional govt we must elect hundreds of men like Ron Paul and Captain Moroni! :)

I get the feeling Romney is a wolf in sheep's clothing and will be elected in 2012.

I have some indicators that allude to this (like his father's participation in the MKultra project) but no proof.

I got an interesting letter from the the Commonwealth PAC for Mitt Romney's election in 2008. I will include my comments in the letter – they are in bold italics in parentheses. Hmmm-at least they were when I typed them in OpenOffice Writer.

It goes as follows:

“October 23, 2006

Dear X X,

I've enclosed a brief, personalized STATE OF UTAH SURVEY that I need you to complete as soon as you can – today, if possible.

X X, you're among a specially selected group of Republicans (me?? I changed parties near the turn of the century when I last moved) that we're contacting nationwide seeking your opinion because we believe, as conservatives (traditional or neo-con), we agree on a couple of very important things:

Our government – in many states (probably because the fed gov passed the welfare buck to them) and especially on the federal level (unconstitutional extra spending) – is growing again. Spending in too many places is out of control, and it needs to stop!
If we return to the conservative principles that made us the Majority Party (probably referring to the FDR time with Democrats were liberals and Republicans were traditional conservatives), we can restore balance to our budget, limit the power of government, provide care for our citizens and keep our nation safe.

Today it's imperative that we move decisively to offer the people of Utah, and all Americans, a positive vision for our future that is clearly defined by the hallmarks (traditional conservative principles shaped during the FDR history of gov) of our party – smaller government, sound economic policy, respect for the traditional family, and a strong military.

Your enclosed STATE OF UTAH SURVEY, commissioned by the Commonwealth PACs of Iowa and Michigan, addresses Ten Issues for America's Future – ten critical issues we must solve to strengthen our states and ensure that our country maintains our position as the world's leading economic and military superpower (I didn't know there was a contest – what happened to just keeping the nation safe)... and continues to be history's greatest hope for humankind (isn't that socialist terminology)!

X X, Utah and the nation are facing many difficult choices (yep, there are at least seven different political parties here in Utah). But if the American People take time to study the alternatives offered by the liberals who control the Democratic Party – they'll realize what you and I already know:

The Democrats have no answers, no vision. They want only to return to the failed politics of higher taxes, a weaker military, and bigger government (just like the Republicans have been doing when they are in control).

Commonwealth PAC, with its five state PACs, was founded by men and women who believe that by embracing the tied-and-true conservative principles that the Republican Party has stood for since the days of Abraham Lincoln, we can elect more leaders who share our vision for America. And we're ready to address what we consider the ten most crucial issues facing our nation today:

Defeating the Jihadists. We cannot fail to defeat radical and violent Muslim (or Christen or Jewish or...?) extremists – and we must support the moderate Muslims (or Christens or Jews or...?) who reject violence and destruction. (never ending war leads to lose of liberty for everybody, except for those with guns and wealth)
Stopping Runaway Spending. Massive debt puts our state and national economies, our currency, our foreign policy, and our future at risk. (yep, it gives a leverage for Russia, China and other countries to black mail us.)
Getting Immigration Right. We can and must secure our borders first, including using technology to help on this critical issue. We must also ensure our laws promote legal immigration (I thought that they already did, the problem is there are non-immigration laws such as welfare laws that make an incentive to come and live off the taxes).
Affirming America's Culture and Values. American values are at the heart of our historic rise to world leadership. These include respect for hard work, sacrifice, civility, love of family, respect for life, education and love of freedom. (The values all came about because of the freedoms given in the Constitution.) We must vigorously reaffirm these key components that have led to America's greatness as a country. (The values will come naturally from a morally righteous people who are free.)
Achieving Energy Independence. America cannot continue to rely on foreign countries for oil. We must use every energy asset we have and develop alternatives that help our nation on the road to energy independence. (The fed gov has stolen this right of government given to the states, true free energy will occur when the fed gov stops messing with energy regulations. The fed gov created the energy crisis, and is trying to steal more freedom by trying to fix it. Environmentalist might object – one solution will be to grant tax deductions in exchange for pollution reduction.)
Simplifying the Tax Code. Your tax burden is too high and too complicated. Keeping taxes low and simplifying the tax code are the two biggest steps we can take to help families and businesses.(Once again the fed gov created the problem, they will steal more money while trying to appear to fix the problem.)
Extending Health Care to All Americans. We've proven in Massachusetts that we can provide health care coverage to all by using market-based programs. (Socialist based.)
Raising the Bar on Education. We must treat teaching as a true profession, measure our progress, focus on science and math, and involve parents in their children's schooling. (When Clinton in office, Republicans what to restore education responsibility to the states, now they want fed control.)
Investing in Technology. We face a technology crisis because American companies are spending more on tort liability than research and development. That must change. (yep, plus the FTA's have forced companies to sell assets to China and other countries, or move to China and other countries.)
Competing with Asia. We must meet the economic rise of China and Asia head-on. (Taxes, FTA's, Technology transfers, Taxpayer backed loans to move to China and other goodies have pushed China into first place of the economic race. Or do we have to trade with them?)

I hope you agree with me that these ten issues hold the keys not only to your state's future but America's, as well. (I think that they will help the fed gov to get bigger not smaller.) And if you do, then please help me prove to every American that by promoting these principles, we will be providing powerful leadership and restoring America's strength, prosperity and standing in the world.(I didn't know there was a contest – what happened to just keeping the nation safe.)

That is why Commonwealth PAC urgently needs to hear from you today. Please complete your SURVEY and rush it back to me so I know you stand with me. When you do, I'll be sure to keep you informed of our progress as America moves forward.

Of course, if you're able to include a contribution of $10, $15, $25, $35, $50, $100 or more to the Commonwealth PACs of Iowa and Michigan to help with this joint project, I would greatly appreciate it. Since 2004, Commonwealth PAC has provided more than $1 million to over 500 candidates and party organizations in over 25 states. Our grassroots network is strong and growing.

But regardless of whether you're able to contribute today, please complete your SURVEY and rush it back to me today.

Remember: our Party's principles constitute the foundation of this great nation. With these principles we can provide the leadership America needs now when we need it most.

This is a time of great challenge for America – but also great opportunity. Together, we can rise to the challenge and achieve great things. Thank you and God bless you and your family.

Sincerely,

Governor Mitt Romney
Honorary Chairman

P.S. I've included a special pre-addressed return envelope to ensure that your completed SURVEY (what is so important about this survey any ways) will be rushed straight to our offices. I look forward to hearing that you have joined with me in this great effort for our nation. Thanks again.”

From talking with different people and sources, I do not believe that Mitt is a member of secret combinations just yet, but I do believe that he has been influenced by them and can be more influenced in the future. I do not think he will be used like Reagan was. (i.e) Elected president and then surround by advisors that will guide him in the direction that he needs to go. I think the powers that be have made such huge strides in the last 3 presidents that it would be too hard for them to let this go and chance things.

I can not support Romney.

He has proven to be nothing but a political expedience-opportunist. He has not held to principle at all. He may not be as bad as others, but he's not going to change or improve ANYTHING.

More about Romney

Post by lundbaek »

Joel Skousen, Editor of World Affairs Brief, reported the following this week about Mitt Romney.

"What about Romney? Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is the only prominent outsider vying for the presidency with any chance of interfering with the establishment's deceptive plans to dupe Republicans with a phony conservative again. Romney is very charismatic, but weak on principles. He says he "had to" make lots of compromises to the abortion lobby in order to get elected governor in a leftist-liberal state like Massachusetts. Because of his religious background (Mormon), he will lose some of the conservative evangelical vote and even some conservative Mormon support as well (who don't like these kinds of compromises). It won't be hard for the establishment media to derail his presidential ambitions by focusing on his Mormon background and provoking a predictable evangelical anti-Mormon backlash. Without full conservative Christian support, Romney won't get the nomination."

I see potentially disastrious complications for LDS if Romney is elected president.

If he really screws things up, I believe there will be a backlash (persecution) for LDS.

I was talking to my wife to day about what would happen if Romney was on the Republican ticket and Hillary Clinton was on the Democratic. I haven't really formed an opinion about Romney, except for that I don't see him as being very stalwart in protecting liberties and being wise as to the crafty machinations that go on in power politics. Beyond that, I don't know if he's just a generally good guy that isn't valiant, or if he is a promoter of "the system."

I could see a scenario where a weak Republican candidate was fostered to go up against Hillary so that Hillary would for sure win (without having to rig the election). I don't think any Republican wants to inherit the Bush legacy, so I doubt there will be much competition on the Republican side. But I also wonder if Romney might not be a guy that could be controlled and used to get the LDS vote. It's hard enough for Utah Lds people to go against Bush. Imagine if their were an LDS president. You could get anything passed and the mormons wouldn't fight back.

Then again, if Hillary were president then I think more mormons and republicans would be more resistant to giving government more and more power. That might be a good thing. Maybe the church would even be more unified politically and maybe would actually takes some action.

This all is only two years away. It will be quite a ride. I imagine I might have a few discussions with people that will be appalled that I wouldn't support a fellow member. But if his policies are no good, doesn't matter if he's member or not, bishop or not.

I agree with Shineon that if Hillary were president more Mormons and Republicans would be more resistant to giving government more and more power. They might ever get off their duffs and lean on their congressmen to oppose the socialist programs that a Democrat president would surely push for.

Romney doesn't seem like a very principled man when it comes to the United States Constitution. He is an incredible politician but not so much a statesman. I personally know for a fact that Romney is a good and faithful man when it comes to his religion, just not at all principled when it comes to the US Constitution.

I can't think of any good coming out of Romney's campaign except it will give name recognition to the LDS Church and would make for awesome missionary apportunities.

And I think name recognition to the LDS Church and awesome missionary opportunities is more important at this time that salvaging the Constitution. I don't see it that way, but I wonder if the Lord does.

I wasn't comparing the two, just looking for some good in all of this.

I'm really concerned with Romney running for president, and I'm especially concerned with the negative publicity the Church and Mormons will go through because of this.

He's already tried to be politically correct when asked about his faith. Remember what a certain person did to Jesus just before He was crucified? I wonder how many times the LDS Church will be denied before the cock crows twice?
