Hey guys

Post by Arandur »

I've been lurking on and off for a while, enjoying the discussions and trying to learn from each of your different perspectives and approaches to liberty, government, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Eventually, the impression came that I would learn more by interacting than by lurking, and that others could benefit from my thoughts just as I have benefited from yours.

Ignoring impressions like that hasn't proven to be a good idea. ;)

About me: I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who loves the Savior and strives to serve Him. I'm a U.S. citizen trying to understand the mess we're in and how we got there, as well as how to reconcile gospel truths with political and social realities to form my views. I still consider myself fairly uninformed about current events, the nature of our government in practice, and so on. Then again, I suppose I'm more informed than most.

Finally, I'm a fan of (in no particular order): J.R.R. Tolkien, browsing hilarious videos/memes, Dieter F. Uchtdorf, playing insufferably long games of Risk, listening to rivers or the ocean, George Washington, and ice cream.

See you all around!

Greetings, Arandur. I too strive to be a servant of the King of Kings as your grand name implies.

Why don't you start a thread on some topic of interest to you?

Welcome!

I can tell you why our nation is in the condition it is in. It's because we use the same false principles of government in our homes that we decry the government for using. Government begins in the family. Heal the homes and you will heal the whole nation.

Welcome.

To truly understand our situation you need to understand what the ideals of the Constitution and understand the enemy of it. To get this one must devote a lot of time and find the correct sources and use a bit of common sense.

Here's a primer: Human Rights and Inalienable Rights.

Inalienable Rights is what they're referred to in the Declaration of Independence and they are not the same thing as so-called Human Rights. The Declaration of Independence says right are "inalienable", and that individuals receive them from the Creator. Because these rights are from the Creator, no legitimate government can infringe on them but must protect them.

"Human Rights" refers to the United Nations and its description of rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This document lists a lot of rights which are welfare programs, not rights. But by listing these welfare programs as rights, it suggests rights come from government, not God. No reference to God is in this document. There is no reference to freedom of the press or freedom to bare arms. Finally, Article 29 says:
In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society.

These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.
In other words, your rights come from government and can be regulated.

These two separate ideas of rights are polarizing the country. We have to get out of the UN because this country cannot subscribe to two separate ideas of rights without one cancelling out the other. The liberal agenda is for our government to be regulated by a global government out of the UN. When they say they're about "human rights," they're referring to the UN idea of rights.

I would also add the UN Declaration of Human Rights calls for a global socialist system of government. It's actually almost a manifesto. The way the Declaration of Independence is a manifesto. Read the UN's Human Rights universal Declaration and you'll see it.
