Hello everyone!

I'm Randy, or how people in the music/writing world may know me as the alias 'RVNMC or 'Ran Da Saváge'

Excuse my English, I'm from the Rotterdam 1 Ward in The Netherlands.
I'm 20 years old and have been called on a mission, going soon!
I wanted to go when I was 18 but a horde of unpleasant things happened.
I recently overcame a pornography addiction that was caused by (belive it or not) studying about sexuality, not really intentionally enjoying but I had a wrong source I guess, but however I learned a lot about people.
I'm now studying a book that is originaly meant for young men and young women called 'Armor Up'.
In that book, the authors explain that pornography mostly has to do with selfishness.
My thoughts were like 'huh what did I do?'
And now that I'm back at churching I can see how the devil tricked me in to almost losing the virginity I kinda have left.
I've always been the kind of person that gives advice to people, and teach people how to pray. I always want to help, that's why things got so confusing to me.

A n y w a y z z,

As you know, we now live in a world where the gender gaps become really small, so we as 'examples' have to help others in our appearance.
Let me explain it a little bit more;

(1.) When I grew up, I was told that skinny jeans are for women and wide jeans for men, that's big taboo because when I became older and studying, I realised that all kinds of people wear skinny jeans.

(2.) I wear black nailpolish on my right foot and I pedicure my right side also.
But I'm planning to only do one single tonail to set up an awareness campaign for the negative use of feet (fighting against pornography).
But I actually shocked how accepting and open people are when I told them the story.
I once had a girlfriend who liked it very much, but it is hard to determine for me if that also is something 'selfish'.
When I was first prompted to paint my nails, it was to be less vulnerable to fetishism.
But now I'm attached to nailpolish  because I like to be different, I had many colors.

(3.) Third comes in the hair;

I have always liked long hair, or at least longer hear than normal. I'm not extreme.
However I always felt an constant urge or pressure to have a standard short haircut, because almost everyone in church has that.
I think that it's beautiful that both men and women have the choice to decide how they want to be groomed.
But I think this pressure is there for a reason, for example when my hair falls in my face, I look a bit femine. And that's not good, but since plenty of the males have longer hair, people just need to accept that and I also am responsible to control my thoughts when I see something. Long hair may trigger people and I don't want to mess up their lives.

For me it actually had a positive outcome also this morning, a friend of mine is really depressive and she wanted to commit suicide, I made a promise with her that I'm going to give her the first blessing I will ever give, now that I'm able.
She dyed my hair orange and I told her that it reminds me of her and I love her and that I carry her with me in some way.

I know I shouldn't worry that much, the bishop also let me pass around the sacrement with a neat knot on my head but because of what I've been through I question this. What do you all think?

AND REMEMBER,
WE ARE THE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN OF OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN
God Bless!♡

Hallo Hollander!
Welkom op het forum!
My family also came out from Rotterdam, but a long long time ago and I live now in Utah. What is the story of how you and/or your family joined the church? Has your family always lived in Rotterdam? I tell some stories of my family from WW2 on another thread that I hope are faith promoting and interesting and about how they joined the church which is now almost 100 years ago. I have an uncle was a Stake President in the Netherlands, but that might have been before you were born, and also I personally know your Mission President there. President Bunnell. In my daughters' ward, a young girl just arrived by you on her mission. Small world, he?

I like your story up there. It is good that you are now older and wiser as far as pornography is concerned and now you will even be better at giving advice to others and leading them into what is good. I respect you for wanting to be a good example to people with gender, and a sense of responsibility about how you may be influencing others with your dress or grooming. You are here more mature than many people twice your age.

The scriptures tell us to have a clean and wholesome appearance.

I served a mission and just now I am typing up all the letters my mother wrote to me during that time and putting them into a book for me to keep. It has been really inspiring to go through this and sense all her support for me as a missionary. It is all in dutch, so no one understands it but me. In the last letter I typed up, she wrote about my birth into this world, and , as any mother would, speaks about how beautiful I was. But she went on to say that the person I was at birth, without any worldly adornments, is the one that is perfect in the eyes of God and what He calls "good". She told me to love myself the way I was, because God did. What was good enough for Him should be good enough for me. It was very popular back then for a girl to bleach her hair blonde and style her hair in what was then an extreme way (to look like their favorite movie star or singer) and she advised me to avoid that and not partake in Babylon, as she called it. It would be inconsistent with believing God made me "good enough" and I would only end up in despair because this was all emptiness, as no one ever really fits the image of the world and its' so called ideals of "perfection" and being "cool".

So I give you from my mission letter what my very dutch mother from Rotterdam wrote to take with you on your mission that I think lines up with what you are saying in your Opening Post.

So you are into music? I am glad to see that knowledge of music might still be dutch traditional. I like Jan Smit. If I knew how to put a video from youtube up here on this forum, I would get a Jan Smit, like the one of him walking through the Disneyland in Paris. That song really represents the dutch spirit in so many ways, and even if no one here understood a word Jan Smit sung, listening to him would still cheer them up somehow!

So have you got your mission call yet? Do you know where you are going and when? And about whether you should have let your friend dye your hair or not, it's all going to get cut off real soon anyway, right? Your bishop probably knows that, ha ha!

Thank you!!!!!! you truly are AWESOME! I can't believe anybody really did that, and I am so glad it was you! :ymhug: I am sure the instructions you are directing me to on how to put up a video are very clear to you, but I am certain I would not understand them. I will try, though OK?

And just in case anybody just might want to know what Jan Smit is singing about there with Snow White, a translation of these lyrics just might be good for those who are having a panic attack over Hilary Clintons' loss of the recent election ( and who although can riot in the streets all night burning flags and breaking windows, but are too traumatized to get to work the next day without therapy!)

He is basically singing that on a windy night he went into a sportsbar and saw a soccer game on the TV. The dutch team wins, causing drinks to be served all round, and he ( Jan ) ended up drinking too much and being out too late. The next morning he has a hangover and is really feeling sick, but nevertheless, in true to form dutch fashion, he gets himself out of bed, takes two aspirins ( that's when he raises his fingers up in the video ) eats his breakfast, gets on his bike and while riding to work is as cheerful, positive, and energetic as he can be to everyone he meets, never feeling sorry for himself or letting on that he feels sick as a dog!

How did I do, Randi, with the translation? It is sort of impossible to get a perfect direct english to dutch translation of it.

Hey, bedankt voor het reageren en het leuke lange verhaal.

Okay first, I've been born in church but I had to find my own way of knowing of the Lord.
My family joined the church a long time ago, about 27 years, my grandma, grandpa and the whole family. It was because of the sister missionaries!
:)

Second, your stories sound really interesting and I'm going to reas some when I have more time!

Third, True I also know that the lord made us perfectly.
But that would also mean that we don't have to shave right? Then we'd have all men bearded and women with hairy legs right? (I hope to marry a hairly legged woman one day :D no joke)
Most of the people use hairdye because everyone does it, but I see it as an opportunity to give yourself a personal touch.
That's why I actually like hairdye, since the world is so extreme now, I can use my dyed hair and nailpolish for good and stand out.
One time I was laying in bed with heavy a stomach ache because I thought that I was going to transform into a boring person being back in church, but the lord just embraced my character of wich I'm really thankful for.

Fourth;
I'm glad you like Jan, but personally I'm a hiphop and rap music producer, but I also do classical and reggae.
My story within the musical business is really long.
You did Good with the translation :p!

God bless!

Hoi Randi,
So you are a third generation church member! Good for you and your family. I think that is a real blessing for you. I also am the same.
:)) Ha Ha about the shaving. You got me there. There is now a thread called "when did shaving begin" ( or something like that ) in the women's section. The guy who started it is all for women not shaving anymore, but he keeps losing the argument. Maybe you could go over there and help him out! :D

And you have brought me up to date with what to me is news. When I was growing up, women did not shave in the Netherlands. No one in my family did it at all, and I never heard of this til coming over here. So now it is that women shave in the Netherlands.

So you are a music producer. That sounds like a job for a real go-getter! But then everybody knows the dutch are the hardest working people IN THE WORLD! and so we shouldn't be surprised that someone as young as yourself is doing a job like that, and with one hand tied behind your back, too!

So tell us all about the refugee situation over there. I know apartments have been built in Rotterdam to house Syrian refugees ( I can't imagine where there is space for that, though), A dutch guy I happened to have breakfast with at one of the National Parks down in southern Utah told me that the refugee situation in europe is very tame. All the refugees are very law abiding, and any stories that they rape, murder or rob people are made up by the fanatical right wing media. So since we all believe that truth is estabiished "in the mouth of two or three witnesses" it would be great to hear what you know of this.

Anway, good luck getting ready for your mission.

Hey hey,
Thank you !

The situation here is a bit tricky, here in Holland (especially the young people) are so intergrated in many cultures, for example I can speak two languages when I'm on outside on the street. We have normal Dutch and a slang language that consists of; Moroccan, Papiamento, Surinam Sranang, Turkish and many more languages all mixed together.
So in general people are really nice to the refugees and vice versa, but the fact also remains that people are people so they sometimes behave like beasts.
A friend of mine who is now 20 and has opened his own business did some voluntary work for the kids over there.
It was really heartwarming to see.
And what is your age, if I may ask ?
Because people in Holland shave for as long as I live, I also read that the egyptians used shave all their bodyhair off to prevent illness etc.

God Bless !

In the UK "randy" means "horny".
Just thought you'd like to know. :)

We had an American guy over here who was studying for a few years. His given name was Randy, but he went by Randall while he was in the UK.
I see from his Facebook page he has reverted to his given name now he has returned to the US.

Where will you be serving your mission?

Well that was interesting, thanks. I knew if I asked you I would get an honest opinion. I think everyone hopes the refugees will go back to Syria ( for the most part ) as soon as this war is over. Which would really be best for everyone concerned.

Rotterdam has the largest port in the world ( bigger than Shanghai ) and it is no wonder that the city is now so diverse.
