Time to start the FNC on LDSFF
What do you think? FNC is the FIRST NAME CLUB
I read something today that inspired me. Are you brave enough to change your LDSFF username to your first real name?
If you change your LDSFF username to your first real name, you will belong to the elite group of people who are brave enough to not cloak their true identities when participating in online discussions.

What E’er Thou Art, Act Well Thy Part: Avoid Wearing Masks That Hide Identity
Elder Quentin L. Cook
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
CES Devotional for Young Adults • March 4, 2012 • Brigham Young University–Idaho
Pornography and sexual immorality aside, there are other insidious behaviors that poison society and undermine basic morality. It is common today to hide one’s identity when writing hateful, vitriolic, bigoted communications anonymously online. Some refer to it as flaming. Certain institutions try to screen comments. For instance, the New York Times won’t tolerate comments where there are “personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity, … impersonations, incoherence and SHOUTING. …
“The Times also encourages the use of real names because, ‘We have found that people who use their names carry on more engaging, respectful conversations.’” 11

My name is Kevin. I am not changing my user name.
An odd thing to show bravery or accuse others of cowardice over. I have met personally with a good many of the forum members, I have nothing to fear from any of them, nor they from me.

Re: Time to start the FNC on LDSFF
I wanted to put my first name when I first came to LDSFF, but it was already taken, and since "Jason" had such a legacy here, I don't want to confuse people my changing it now. However, my full name is in the link to my Facebook page, which is in my signature at the bottom. Close enough?

I was going to use my full name but I didn't want people to confuse me with a certain prophet.

Hmmmm. I'm not afraid to stand for anything I post. But given that I am a mod and seem to occasionally make enemies - whether I mean to or not, I try to avoid feeding the stalkers.... :-s :pPSCahill wrote:Ah, but who is braver, the one who uses their real FIRST name, or their real LAST name?

Just a side note.. A brief attempt at comic relief:
Hilarious!

In response to all of the questions: I had a hernia repair to fix residual tears from a previous surgery.
I wish I could remember this but I was definitely out of it.
This was my fifth surgery within our six years of marriage and she's been by my side through all of it. In a previous surgery I suffered a severe complication and we didn't know if I'd ever function the same again. She is the love of my life.
Glad everyone is enjoying the video

Re: Time to start the FNC on LDSFF
I actually got to go to Elder Cook's talk at BYU-I, we got pretty good seats too, right in front where it was actually easier to look at him than at the big screen projection on the wall. I thought about the point for awhile, it is a good point. People on the internet can be jerks and real names help. But on the other hand our nation has a long and proud history of influential writings being done under false names, so yeah with all due respect to Elder Cook, I will just stay Silas on here. That could be my real name. It could be, but its not.

I just created my username...I don't want to have to change it already. I'll add it to the tagline.
