What counts as cheating? New poll.

Post by Fiannan »

Found the poll results in The Deseret News:

Some of the results are surprising, some are not. What items stand out to readers here?

I'm surprised that 100% of the people didn't think an affair was cheating on their spouse. I sure do.

I was amused that they specified "going to a strip club WITHOUT your partner" (I guess if you take her it's OK?)

There were several I was surprised by. Having dinner with a woman is cheating? Hmm I think there are valid reasons...I mean I would let my wife know I was doing it and why - I think that is actually a pretty good measure - if you are doing something with someone else that you wouldn't want your spouse to know about - you're probably cheating.

So presumably, when BY & Co were lining up their next plural wife, they were actually cheating.

Agreed. I have noted here before that I have encountered LDS women who have said that it would bother them if they caught their husband looking at porn...without them! And it is often the wife who instigates the "Let's look at something exciting when the kids are asleep." sort of thing. And while I have no idea the religion of the people I used to know someone who, before joining the Church, was a stripper and she said couples would often come in together. Welcome to the real world.

What surprised me by the poll was how many did not consider having a romantic dinner, a romantic kiss or sharing intimate conversations in social media as cheating.

Women see no problem with them talking, hanging out, going to dinner with another male because they "are just friends", they even complain that they should be able to "have guy friends", but when roles are reversed and it is the man just hanging out, etc with another female, women suddenly see it as cheating and being disrespectful.

This woman would see it as a problem.

The question will be though is it cheating and/or breaking the Law of Chastity if it's a fake person, be it virtual or robotic?! Does lust even count if the person doesn't actually exist?

For me, cheating is when a person cheated on you not only physically but also mentally. It's good that my friend advised me to use http://smstrackers.com/. It was not in vain that it seemed strange to me my wife’s evening conversations “with her friend”.

Also this is the dumbest poll I've ever seen. Having regular sex with someone who isn't your partner isn't cheating according to 18% of people? Right then...

Interesting that the latest generation is more conservative than the previous.
