It is really not clear what President Trump is trying to do with North Korea. But taunting a wacky leader who has major military power is not a good idea and Trump did it again this morning:

The Kim Jung-un government issued a warning yesterday following the deployment of a US naval strike group to the region.

The statement said North Korea would counter "reckless acts of aggression" with "whatever methods the US wants to take."

"We will make the US fully accountable for the catastrophic consequences that may be brought about by its high-handed and outrageous acts," the statement said.

The statement went on to say that the "current grim situation" justified its "self-defensive and preemptive strike capabilities with the nuclear force at the core."

If Kim Jung-un believes that Trump is going to make a move on him, it is difficult to believe that Kim isn't considering a preemptive strike against South Korea.

The Trump provocation is set.

Kim is a kid who could be sweet-talked but Mr, Art of the Deal isn't going in that direction and he is making a simple decapitation more difficult by signalling to Kim that the U.S. is coming after him.

What we have is two nutjobs playing chicken. One of them at any time could believe that the launching of a military attack is the only solution.

I have said before that I wouldn't lose any sleep over Kim Jung-un being taken out though opening borders and charming the kid makes much more sense but provoking the kid the way Trump is doing now is simply mad.

On Wednesday, North Korean officials told foreign journalists in Pyongyang invited to mark the national holiday that their schedule had been canceled, and to instead meet early on Thursday to prepare for a "big and important event".

Visits by foreign journalists to North Korea are rare and tightly coordinated, and security checks at events attended by leader Kim Jong Un are especially rigorous.

North Korea often uses such visits to showcase new construction projects. In recent weeks workers have been putting the finishing touches to the skyscraper-lined "Ryomyong" street in central Pyongyang.

Kim has made frequent visits to the street to inspect construction work there, according to state media. North Korea has in the past marked its April 15 holiday with tightly choreographed military parades.

Has President Trump "successfully" provoked the nutjob North Korean leader to go to war?

According to the UK's The Express Kim Jong-un has reportedly ordered residents of the country’s capital Pyongyang to leave the city immediately, sparking fears he may be preparing for war.

Reports in the Russian newspaper Pravda claim more than 600,000 people - around 25 per cent of the city’s population - are being urgently evacuated.

According to South Korean media, residents in the kingdom have said goodbye to each other, sparking concerns the tyrannical leader could be about to act after months of nuclear weapon testing.

Meanwhile, foreign reporters have been told to prepare for a “big and important event."

But notes The Sun, North Korean officials have given no clues as to the nature of the “surprise event” or where it would take place.

However, past announcements of a similar nature have turned out to be relatively low-key.

At the same time, reports suggest that NK is preparing a nuclear launch (test?)

The Sun reports:

US officials believe North Korea has placed a nuclear device in a tunnel, which could mean a nuclear test is imminent..

Washington-based 38 North, a website that monitors North Korea, said satellite images from Saturday showed vehicles and trailers at the Punggye-ri test site and signs that communications cables may have been laid to a test tunnel.

The think tank said water appears to be being pumped out and was draining downhill “presumably to keep the tunnel dry for monitoring or communications equipment”.

China reportedly staged around 150,000 troops at the North Korean border. If Trump can get Pyongyang to attack the US or South Korea, the North Koreans will be taking it from both sides. On the other hand, if the US does attack North Korea without provocation the Chinese will cross the border to reinforce the North Korean army.

It will be interesting to see what happens. The only thing I know for sure is that if Kim attacks US forces it won't end well for him, but it will improve the global security situation.
