No matter how saddening or angering it is, these people are using their agency and they will get what they want, which is destruction. So much to say for the rest of us doing nothing. Remember the original Time Machine movie where the Swedish-looking Eloy were docile and controlled by the Morlochs, who provided them with fruit and vegetables but at the price of eating them for a protein source?

One wonders though, if you kill the independence and strength of a person does that give you the ability to then fill the empty void and perhaps turn them into killing machines. I realize that the safe-place people may seem like another source of protein in the event of an apocalypse, but perhaps there is a hidden psychological agenda?
