Exercise Music?

Post by Thinker »

As my kids quote when they're being silly, "We're here to pump you up!" :D
Music helps me push myself more when I exercise, but it can be difficult to find classy (not trashy) music that is still got a good beat, etc.

I'm sure we all have extremely varied taste in music, but I like a little of most - so please share any good work-out tunes...
Thanks!

When I'm lifting heavy metal, I want heavy metal. AC/DC Thunderstruck comes to mind. Or Indestructible by Disturbed. Anything with a strong rhythm.

Thinker - what is this "EXERCISE" thing you're asking about. Music I get...I'm not familiar with exercise.

I said In TRUTH. You didn't even recognize me at the grocery store yesterday when I followed you out to your car.

I like "tool "there newer stuff. It's heavy yet mellow. Don't know how they do that. My taste in music has changed reasontly. I'm more into calming music. Jose Gonzalez. Death cab. Iron and wine. Mumford and sons. Band of horses. Sufjan Stevens. Perfect circle. David gray. Modest mouse. Elliot smith. Kings of convenience. All awsome music.

Get pumped music leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Makes me feel dirty. I just can't do it anymore.

Just when I think I know what you're about, you surprise me!
I'd never have matched you guys up with some of your music preferences.
Just goes to show you can't judge someone by the words they type or the notes/rhythm/tunes they like. :)

Obrien,
Ex sir size moo sick...
Literally, it would be the grunts and notes that are heaved as one takes on strenuous tasks. And often - it goes along with interesting smells and facial expressions.

SempiternalHarbinger,
Classic - Eye of the Tiger!

Thinking about epic dance songs of different decades...
1950's: Rock around the clock
60's: ?
70's: Queen, Crazy little thing called love
80's: Bruce Springstein, Dancing in the dark
90's: Groove is in the heart
2000: ?
2010: ?

There seems to be a popular trend gradually starting more with couple dancing and moving on to more club dancing - or internet dancing. :D

Ooohhh, I get it you want music to listen to as you work. This exercise concept = work in this context. Got it. I listen to podcasts as I work. But I am old and boring, as documented by Pink Lady Death several posts back.

It has been shown that fast paced music and louder music help to prime the body for exercise. Just saying.

A few good songs to try out:

My wife has a lot of Lady Gaga on her tracks. Not so much into that but her song "In This Moment - Blood" is quite good.

A few good aerobic tunes?

Lacuna Coil - "Heaven's a Lie," "Tight Rope" and "Stars."

Theatre of Tragedy - "Siren" and "Storm."

Serenia - "The Other Side" and "The Path to Decay."

Just those titles . They may pump up the body. But what do they do to the mind?

Titles mean nothing. The garbage that often is played at church dances sounds cute or innocent to adult chaperones and thus gets played. People should pay more attention to the lyrics. However,I think you will find that several of those songs I listed "Storm" and "The other Side" have religious connotations. An important point to note is that while contemporary pop is the hymnal music for shallowness, consumerism and cheap sexuality metal ranges from the harder (mostly 80s) musical genre of white working class youth to the more symphonic metal music that is far more cerebral and esoteric. In a sense then metal is more protest against modern social norms while pop is a celebration of it.

That's why I ask. I've never heard those songs. But I know how horrid the lyrics are in most music anymore.

I feel it's not really music unless they accually sing and can play instruments. You can't crap without rap.

I do love some good reggae though. Bob Damien and ziggy Marley.
Anyone here lisen to Matisyahu?

Ezra,
I agree with you. Personally, music affects me a lot - the lyrics and sound - so I'm also getting more selective.
Still, I respect others who get inspired or pumped up by music I don't... To each there own.
Yet again, I think music can get into our subconscious (which governs us most) pretty effectively. My kids will sing songs I exercise to, so another reason to be selective.

Ezra,
Hhhhmmmm?
Do you have a spiritual experience listening to all the music in your collection? Tool? A perfect circle? Dark dark music.

Should we only listen to music that forces a prompting and spiritual experience?
I thought it was for working out, not Sunday school music.

Btw yes. I have had many promptings listening to that music.
The 2nd song I listed. For today. Did you read the lyrics?

******also, WWJD is readily ask by accusers, but rarely asked of themselves.
