The kids in Utah only pretend to be in this club Ashley... I grew up here ;)
My little brother was teasing this other boy in high school because he was really prudish. He would say to the other boy, "Do you look at girl's legs?" :ymdevil: The kid replied, "You're sick!!!!" X( A year or two later I saw the kid in the college computer center that was saying, "You're sick!". I snuck up on him and he was looking at porn. :(

Not having read the book but based on reviews and comments made on this forum I would say I have no problem with the book and here's why:

We are saved by grace AFTER all we can do. The "all we can do" does not mean perfection, but nor does it allow for willful disobedience. We should always be striving for perfection, but when we fall short "all we can do" is rely on the grace of God to make us clean again and start anew. Guilt is intended to lead us to be humble. If we are humble and have faith in God then is his grace sufficient. The problem occurs when we don't allow guilt to lead us to be humble.

Guilt without humility is pride in disguise. We think that since we feel bad we must therefore be humble. But really, all we are feeling is the misery that comes when we can't be prideful of our obedience. The wicked take the truth to be hard and for someone who is proud of their own obedience, the hard truth of failure is difficult to digest indeed. This is the very reason God gave us weaknesses, to show us on a regular basis that even obedience means nothing without humility. Therefore guilt is a very good thing when accompanied by humility but very bad when brought on by pride.

So if we or our children constantly feel guilty because we constantly fall short of heaven's expectations, know that we are not being weighed down by our failure to achieve perfection but by our unwillingness to acknowledge that we were never expected to be able to. Because with God all things are possible, including "all we can do."

As posted by anon on another board.
good point he/ she picks up here

.....
It's the survivorship rights of joint tenancy that is the most interesting to me. Ordinarily, people that go in on a property for the sake of convenience would hold property as tenants in common. This way, when one of them passes away, their interest in the property would pass to the heirs of the person who died, not to the survivor. With joint tenancy, you are giving your interest to the survivor. In other words, Dew and Watson wanted to give their share to each other upon their passing, rather than to anyone else. Does this suggest an intimate relationship? It's certainly not determinative, but I think it means something when they each wanted the other to have their interest in the house if one of them passed away.

Fwiw, can I ask if the backyards have a fence in common.
Ooooh I am going to far with this.
Its just fascinating

Jules, you did not respond when I proffered an answer on the other thread but this post from there deals with what I perceive the primary form of Denver's tendencies that are deceptive. The first half of the response is what addresses this issue that you inquire about here.

It is very clear cut but I suspect many will not acknowledge it.
It is a very clear cut straw man arguement. You have to put words into his mouth then attack the words you made up! Is that the best you have?
As I stated Thomas, that while it was clear cut, many would not acknowledge it. It is not a wonder that you do not acknowledge it as you seldom see very true. Some find it difficult to separate truth from their preconceived bias. For this reason I have gotten to where I very seldom respond to your posts as even when you are obviously mistaken you will back into a corner and keep swinging, or changing directions or other means of ducking from acknowledging mistakes. Thus where you see a straw man, Denver himself exhibited a bit more integrity when he stated in a subsequent blog entry:
I understand the distinction between attraction and lust, and acknowledge the criticism I've received by failing to allow for it.

What will be fascinating is that unless I miss the mark, you will still defend that I created a straw man argument of little consequence because this lets you sleep at night wrapped in the dreams of your own disillusion. So be it.

P.S. You asked if my strawman was the best I had - looks like it was good enough for Denver, but still perhaps not good enough for you.

Excluding others who are less than you (based on outward and not the heart), doing things for a reward, standing above others, pride, rameumpton, Pharisees, great and spacious buildings, hedge laws and rules are what save, trust in the arm of flesh, persecute those who are less than you, exclude and shun those who fail, don't worry about the atonement, earn your way into heaven.

I find quite a few messages being taught in this book. I am sure there are more.
