Anybody seen them perform at one of their firesides? If so, what did you think?

Not my style of worship, but it was fun to watch a member of my stake presidency look uncomfortable during the concert.

Yeah...have you heard if it was "successful"? They're going to be here in a couple of weeks and it's turning into a movement of heaven and earth to pull off two firesides in one night. I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude...lol.

Can you define "successful?" Tons of people came out and enjoyed the concert; Gladys and her husband bore powerful testimony of their conversions and their relationship with the Savior; I was able to take a Tagalog tithing slip from the Tagalog branch and confuse my ward clerk the following Sunday. To me, that made the event successful, but I'm not sure what metrics you're comparing up against.

Didn't really have any metrics in mind, just wondered about missionary requests as a result of the meetings since It's touted as a missionary opportunity more than anything else. I've just never seen anything like it in terms of preparation, manpower, etc.

If by successful, you mean did the missionaries get tons of referrals? They did here in Charlotte, NC. The concert was great, too.

Can't really say, sorry. I live an hour from the building in Atlanta where the concert was held; I don't think my ward had any referrals, but I can't say for the rest of the city.

Gladys knight came to the Atlanta Georgia metro area around 2003-4 and I saw her and her choir preform. Church Members in the Lilburn Stake were given free tickets to her concert/fireside as long as we brought a non member friend, so I brought my neighbor. I was touched when Glady shared her story about her son who joined the church, who tried unsuccessfully to share the gospel with his family, but then who suddenly died tragically. After he died she read his copy of the Book of Mormon he tried to give her in life, but this time she read it with invested interest and sincerity. she also found his testimony among his things, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was TRUE and that Jesus is the Savior of the World. She and her family were later baptized. It was a very touching story.
I also loved how she sang "I am a Child of God" and "Amazing Grace". Nobody can sing those songs like she can! There was a special spirit in the concert hall that night, a spirit of truth bearing witness in her music that I'll never forget!
The concert was VERY Successful and most every seat was taken. You could hear the gentle whispers of concert goer's as she sang Gospel songs. People were sharing the whole time and I knew it was the Gospel that they were sharing. About 1/2 of that concert goers were African Americans, just as my neighbor was. I remember thinking, Wow! She is taking the Gospel to her people and they are wide awake and listening tonight! The story that she shared about her son who tried to share the Gospel, but then suddenly died had everyone in tears, Mormon and non Mormon alike! She testified that she knew that she would see her son again and that she feels his spirit around her all the time. It was a truly touching moment that I shall never forget!
I suspect she has been doing these concerts every since. If you ever have the opportunity to go and see her, it would be an experience you won't soon forget!
