I did not call Pres. Devisser, nor do I know anybody who did call him. I note that ascaphus posted on Fri Feb 15, 2013 3:25 pm that "He has been called and admitted to giving the talk." I wrote earlier that "bogus or not, the message itself is still true and accurate." I imagine he has already been bugged enuf about it, and maybe even chastised for letting it go cyber.

Outstanding address by a courageous stake president not afraid to call it as he sees it.... Title of his message is indicative of media's spin. Fact of the matter is he is lamenting the demise of liberty - far from political or republican. Liberty is the foundation of The Lord's work, it is just that plain, that simple. Sadly this most simple principle isn't understood by many. Good on President DeVisser, but I expect he will get chastized for his statements and for letting it get out on the internet. I would like to send him a email complementing and thanking him for "blowing the whistle" on our awful situation.

I used to live in that area, in a neighboring stake. I've heard several leaders from that area specifically speak like this and for very good reason. The area is full of sleeping people who have many challenges with so much of gospel truth and the principles of liberty. I see the media and some websites have taken his comments as political. But I didn't get that sense. It read more like a news report than any political-leaning discourse.

I love the comments from the "Mormons for Obama" spokesperson quote from the Trib article. What a laugh.

I think it's such a small thing to be concerned with, to care so much that a message in Stake Conference would get out to the masses. This should be a good thing. Sure, the message was intended for the Hidden Valley Stake but... shouldn't a message given in Stake Conference have some value to anyone that reads it. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ we're talking about. If I gave a talk in a ward sacrament meeting I should be happy if it went viral on the internet because if I was doing what I was supposed to that message would have been inspired by the Spirit and should contain at least something of value to anyone reading it, even if it contained messages intended for a specific audience.

We better not publish the epistle of Paul to the ___________'s. We wouldn't want others to read it! Hey, that letter was for Timothy only! :-ss

:D

Article related to this talk. It's legit. And the stake president had every right to give this talk to his local congregation if he felt inspired by the Spirit. He was espousing correct principles - as they relate to government - and never mentioned political parties or candidates.

I would like to thank President DeVisser very much for his stake conference address which "blew the whistle" on some of the "awful situation" the United States is in. We Latter-day Saints are the only people that I know of to whom the Lord has given warnings of, and a divine commandment to awake to a sense of our awful situation. The Lord, thru both ancient and latter-day prophets has also told us to take actions to rectify our awful situation. But how can Latter-day Saints oppose the fomenting of our awful situation if they remain in ignorance of it and what is causing it ? Hopefully President DeVisser's address will reach hundreds if not thousands of LDS people who need to be awakened to our awful situation and who will resolve to do what they can to help make the United States into the nation the Lord intended it to become. Still, I cannot help wondering if he got taken to the wood shed by the General Authorities.

I didn't realize how big of a deal that talk was until I read that tribune article. Those people's comments are ridiculous on why they dislike the talk. They were not there when he presented it to even have the spirit. He said nothing that has not be said in General Conference. Except the "2012" being the worst yet. I guess people on the comments page were complaining its not worse than WWII.

Well spiritually it definitely was. That was the purpose of the talk to get us spiritually prepared and wake up to the awful situation. It doesn't matter who was president romney or obama that's not where the problem lies. Its the government itself full of secret combinations. Due to the corruption obama can't even get anything done. Too many far left's and far rights, greed etc. you get the point.

I'm glad biran talked to the tribune about it, according to the article anways.

I agree, I'd like to send him an e-mail or letter to thank him. I sent his talk to members of my family and it has awakened within them a desire to "get ready" and know the time is short. It was an inspired talk, I felt the Spirit when I read it. Thank you Pres. De Visser!

I just sent my letter off to him.
His office address can be gotten thru lds.org

I hope others will also. As I wrote earlier, he may get taken to the woodshed by the General Authorities.

Or even address letters to his office at the Stake Center. If you're going to post an address publicly post the stake center address... for the sake of his privacy.

I'm glad he said it
I'm glad he said _something
I'm glad someone says something, anything

I think he needs to get his rose coloured republican glasses off and wake up a bit.

Left right paradigm.

he refers to 4 years and 5 years ofdecay. Was that when he became stake pres? If so then that offers context. Otherwise he.used it as a platform to vent his politics, and truth be known republicans were every bit as bad as Obama's cronies and socialism

sadly, I think he probably was a pro bush pro war pro Obama kind of guy. Now bitter Obama is there, albeit doing a continuation of bush and.friends
why would.he think like this?

Why would he think he can do that from the pulpit? Why would he fall for the left right conjob?

Iadies and gentlemen, I reveal exhibits Cheney, rice, Petraeus, Hinckleys presidential medal of freedom, Cheney's BYU doctorate for services to humanity.

(Can I add that the Dalai Lama asked if he could speak at BYU and was rejected FWIW)

I guess he learned from the best of 'em

He was not talking about politics he was talking about the financial collapse. 2007-2012 = ~5 years.Plus if you cannot see any decay in society in the past 5 years than that person needs to have their eyes opened.

I hope the stake president doesn't get called on the carpet for what he said. It's not his fault that the talk went viral. He was only speaking to his stake members and it wasn't for the rest of the world to hear. But it's a marvelous and open talk. I wish more members would read it.

More members will read President DeVisser's talk if we send the talk together with links to the SLTrib article to more members. I think the Tribune did us a big favor by running the story on President DeVisser talk.

This is a wonderful talk and a warning to all who think that the Lord will tolerate the way our society has become. In general, we have embraced everything we were warned about. Sad, but true.

I highly doubt he will get chewed out for the talk, his counselor, or whomever posted it would be the one to get chewed out for putting it out there publicly. You are right, what he felt inspired to give to his stake is his right, so long as it is not false doctrine and there is ZERO false doctrine in this talk, also ZERO political preaching or endorsements from the pulpit.

I have sent the text ot President DeVisser's stake conference address to more people than I can remember. It might interest some of you to read the responses I have received so far.

"Outstanding address by a courageous stake president not afraid to call it as he sees it.... Title of his message is indicative of media's spin. Fact of the matter is he is lamenting the demise of liberty - far from political or republican. Should be republican but it isn't.... Liberty is the foundation of The Lord's work, it is just that plain, that simple. Sadly this most simple principle isn't understood by many."
*****************************************

"Thanks for sending me this talk. I read it and the newspaper article. I was surprised to see that ldsff had a mention, as well as Brian M. I think the talk speaks for itself. The LDS are hard of heart and things like this are not easy to hear. However, I still think this guy doesn't completely get it. I gave very similar talks in my ward at least three times last year. Though in my talks I made it very clear that all political parties were corrupt. I also made it a point to speak about principle as it is found in our scriptures. I never gave a thought to donating to Romney, I did see him as a lesser of two evils, but still evil. I'll never forget coming to work the day after the election. Not a word was spoken, we were all in a state of shock and depression. I was teaching classes to a group of seasoned Naval Aviators. It was fascinating. So I must admit, in one way I was disappointed. Yet, I feel a Romney presidency would have been disastrous for the LDS. A sense of pride would have overtaken us and ruined us. If we're not there already."
***************************

"Agreed, but I'll bet he got taken to the wood shed by the General Authorities."
*************************************

"I think the Tribune did us a big favor by running the story on the President DeVisser talk. I particularly enjoyed the one by the opposition that was so stupid. I believe we will see some changes as a result of the talk. I am thrilled that it went virile. I received good comments on the talk from those I sent it to even from non members."

*****************************************

"this is a great talk! Isn't it unique about others thinking this is a political pandering speech cloaked under the auspice of a church Stake President whom they are claiming calls it direct revelation. I see no instance where "thus saith the Lord" is mentioned. He simply said he was inspired by the spirit of the Holy Ghost to direct this to the members under his stewardship. He strictly used facts and quotes from media and Church officials to give credibility to "I testify" that these are signs again of our temporal and spiritual leaders. It caused me to reflect on my own temporal and spiritual mortality and to look in the mirror and see if I like the man that is reflected. How could anyone explain it any more plain and Supernal than this? Naysayers are never going to know good and wholesome and always profess " all is well in Zion". Thank you again for forwarding this to me."

****************************************************************

"Pres. De Visser DID talk "as move upon by the Holy Ghost." That is my testimony. If we are doing what is right, following the promptings of the Spirit we must expect opposition. After all, "persecution is the heritage of the faithful."
I welcome this controversy; maybe it is time for the "socialist saints" (now THERE'S an oxymoron!) to show their true colors whether they are from the membership at large or in a leadership position.

The besom of destruction is starting its sweep and the separation of the wheat from the tares is close at hand. Maybe the Lord will soon scrape the communistic barnacles from the hull of the good ship Gospel!"

************************************************************ B-)
