Interesting statement by the RSP. When I go to SM I get ill for days.ithink wrote:So the church says I can't have a gospel discussion group in my home, but Harry Reid get's an invitation to speak by the SP?
And they say I can't electioneer on church property, which is contrary to Canadian federal law, and contrary to what they are doing in Las Vegas with Reid?
I think they're playing politics. Heck, I don't even get asked to speak in church anymore because I give talks like this: http://www.ldsfreedomforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1400, but Harry Reid gets a special invite?
I guess that's why our RS president says she now feels the spirit more since she stays at home with her ailing husband instead of going to sacrament.
The handbasket is filled to overflowing, and we are on our way folks. But Brigham saw it coming: "Brigham Young at the Provo, Utah Bowery Conference in 1867 Brethren, this Church will be led onto the very brink of hell by the leaders of this people."

According to a comment on Independent American News, the fireside(s) has been scrubbed. I hope tis is not the end of the issue, for I perceive a real need for enlightenment and education on the part of certain prominent members of the Church.

I doubt there will be any mention of this in church news... for that matter, I highly doubt there will be any earth-shattering news made in general conference. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Re: Harry Reid Firesides ordered by Nevada's LDS Regional Re
There will be nothing new because the attitudes of the general membership are worse than ever. The next earth shattering news won't come in a conference session, it will come in a catastrophe Haitian style. Maybe then we will listen.InfoWarrior82 wrote:I doubt there will be any mention of this in church news... for that matter, I highly doubt there will be any earth-shattering news made in general conference. BTW, I served in Haiti 20 years ago and testified and minced my words then just about the same way I do now. Either we start taking the BoM seriously or we will repeat BoM style, and be destroyed. Piece by piece or all at once God only knows.

I heard now that there may still be a Fireside but that Harry will just be giving his testimony. I am trying to learn more but it appears even my sources have had a bit of pressure put on them.

Naturally I do not know if this can be trusted. I am still trying to confirm. My sources got quiet. It says right on the front page there will be a Fireside at 7 pm with Harry Reid.
I was also given disinformation about the location
The real location is 6051 Dorrell Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89131
I am going over there now to see if I can get a Ward program to see if I can get more info.

It might be the plan is to convert a lot of socialists to the Gospel and then teach them the principles of freedom once they are activaated in church.

I doubt there will be any releases over this, but I would hope a few people would be set straight on the responsibilities of Latter-day Saints to befriend the U.S. Constitution as President Benson explained in the October 1987 General Conference.

Re: Harry Reid Firesides ordered by Nevada's LDS Regional Re
I can't help but wonder what some of the repercussions are going to be, and who they may be aimed at. If that website is correct, the fireside was cancelled over security concerns. What kind of concerns? Was someone making threats? if so, were they public threats or one person to another which happened to reach higher up ears?
Who is at fault in this? If a member made a public threat of violence, that is clearly improper (besides, threats are a sign of weakness - If you have to threaten, you've probably already lost.) If there was no threat, but someone higher up decided that the bad publicity would do more damage than good, someone's going to be really pissed about it. Depending on who that person is and if they're a good person or not, somebody somewhere's going to hear about it.

Re: Harry Reid Firesides ordered by Nevada's LDS Regional Re
My thoughts are the stake presidency did not want to expose the members of the stake to searches before they entered the building. It would have to be intrusive in order to protect the speaker considering the circumstances .
It would be very easy for someone to come into the building with a weapon and hurt someone.
If I were the one making the decision, I would cancel the engagement also. It is just not worth the risk, needless to say the anti-LDS publicity it would spark if something were to happen.

I just hope the people responsible for organizing this fireside are now aware that in the course of his political career, Harry Reid has not only demonstrated disdain, even contempt, for constitutional principles in government, but he criticized President Ezra Taft Benson to members of the news media following a speech at BYU in 2007, accusing him of leading members astray, and more recently criticized the Church's recent active support of California Proposition 8. I did my best to get that message to the right people, and I hope others did as well.

probably afraid Chris was going to arrive with the page from the church handbook of instuctions spelling out that church buildings are not to be used for political events
having said that, i think he'd prefer the event happen and we lose our tax free sham status once and fo rall and be prepared to be a mob of lukewarm people, and stand up for something.

Re: Harry Reid Firesides ordered by Nevada's LDS Regional Re
Sorry to repeat an observation someone might already have made.
Is it possible that the event was cancelled on the 'pretext' of security in order for whoever authorized such an event to 'save face'? Just one of those little white lies that transfers the onus onto some unnamed person or entity?
Teabaggers are available for that role since no 'good' Mormons would belong to a group calling themselves Teabaggers, and we know how angry those radical rightwing Constitutionalists are about Democrats and all. They must have wrecked the Fireside!
