Re: Priesthood connected to the endowment?

There have been some incidents where someone has received the priesthood and been endowed, but not baptised.
My son encountered someone at the MTC (a fellow missionary) who had to be baptised while he was there.

Re: Cold Sweeps the Southern Hemisphere Major Crop Damage

Winter wheat can withstand temperatures of -30C, so I don't think so. Alright, I see that my humor was not translating well on screen. Oops, sorry. Maybe I'm a bit thick. Actually, if I'm only a bit thick, I'll settle for that. :) One needs a thick skull to protect the precious grey matter nestled ...

I get that. But what crops would they be growing in the winter? Winter wheat, sir. Winter wheat can withstand temperatures of -30C, so I don't think so. It's winter right now in the southern hemisphere. Isn't normally cold in winter? And what crops do they grow in the winter? It is winter in the Southern Hemisphere Robby, but what he is remarking about is an exceptionally cold winter. Unusually cold. dc I get that. But what crops would they be grow...

Re: 1st Amendment right to free speech

I'd never really considered exactly why the Nephites tried to kill Samuel. They could have ignored him; just not paid him any attention. They could have simply deported him. Maybe they were "offended" by his condemnation of their life style and/or behaviour. Maybe they decided he was a public nuisan...

Seriously? This civil forfeiture without a conviction is really a thing in the US?
Surely there must be some kind of due process before assets can be seized.
Is this something to do with anti-terror laws?

Re: The Family A Proclamation to the World and The Living Christ

Just because something is absent from the 10 commandments (fornication, homosexuality, word of wisdom etc) doesn't mean they don't apply to us. But we have no right to ignore what is in the 10 commandments, just because it's inconvenient. Surely you can see the difference, and therefore the weaknes...

Re: Doom coming on Sept. 23rd?

Are we talking about September this year (2017)?
The reason I ask is that this prediction seems to be an annual occurrence. Some major doomsday type incident has been predicted for at least the last three Septembers to my certain knowledge.

I won't hold my breathe.

Here's a question.
Why is freedom of speech an amendment to the Constitution rather than part of the original?

Re: Joseph Smith and Our Relationship with Christ

For me, one of the things I love and admire about Joseph was his capacity to forgive. The situation with William W. Phelps is a good example, but there are others.
I think he must have acquired this huge capacity to forgive from his interactions with Christ.

I saw an interview a little while ago where the NASA representative was asked why we haven't been back to the Moon. He said that we "no longer have the technology". Seriously! He went on to say that we did have it, but it's been lost. Are these guys for real? If so, this demonstrates two things. 1....

The problem is, the 2nd commandment says nothing about praying to the image. It sounds like you dismiss the possibility of clarification from modern prophets. I don't believe God contradicts himself. The 10 commandments are foundational and could not be over-ruled by modern prophets. They were writ...

Do you mean -33 C is the coldest temperature ever recorded in the northern hemisphere during the summer only? Because the lowest temperature ever recorded in the northern hemisphere is -71.2 C. P.S. I was there at the time. It was in my kitchen, the moment it became apparent that my wife had realise...

If man ever conquers the ability to truly travel in space throughout our own Solar System and beyond - is it physically possible for Satan and his followers to still tempt man who has traveled far from Earth? If they still have power to tempt man, do you think they are allowed to travel wherever ma...

Everyone is making some good points. I think this is a very complicated subject. Far more difficult to resolve than I had first thought. Mcusick, good shout. Maybe I should ditch the avatar. One of the reasons I have started to look at this issue is that I have recently started reading Avraham Gilea...

Re: Graven images and idolatry in the church

I felt this deserves it's own thread. Do Mormons perform a type of idolatry with statues of Mormon figures and artwork? The 2nd commandment says no graven image. Do statues of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young violate this commandment? How about the Christus statue? What is true idolatry and what is a...

I don't believe God contradicts himself. The 10 commandments are foundational and could not be over-ruled by modern prophets. They were written in stone for a reason. In fact, if that was attempted, I would side with the 10 commandments, and I think most people would. So, how strict is your interpr...

Re: New Self-Reliance Program... Economic Collapse Ahead?

The new church program might be a sign that there are many more years of a good economy. One of the worst things to do just prior to an economic collapse is to start a business. Most small business start-ups fail already but to start a business just prior to a collapse is almost a guarantee fail. D...

Robin Hood, You guys need to get into the 21st century. I think we had better ideas and morals in 1787. You Liberals/Progressives think that forward in time is forward in progress. Not necessarily so. We have been losing our freedom and and rights as Satan takes an even greater hold on our souls, u...
